3 steps to conquer post-quitting chaos

Follow Along:

Let’s talk about the wild journey of quitting.

It’s a rollercoaster ride filled with twists and turns of emotions. You know what I’m talking about, right? That mix of excitement, fear, and doubt that floods your mind when you’re on the brink of leaving a job or making a major life change. I’m sharing the 3 steps to conquer post-quitting chaos if this is you right now.

I’ve coached countless individuals who were itching to quit their jobs, each with their unique goals and circumstances. Some were ready to take the leap, while others had already taken the plunge. And let me tell you, that moment of quitting is a milestone that holds immense significance for many.

But here’s the thing: We often fall into the trap of believing that quitting is the ultimate solution, the magic ticket to happiness and freedom. We convince ourselves that once we reach that destination, all our worries and anxieties will fade away. We think, “Just a little bit more, and I’ll be there. Then everything will be perfect.”

But guess what? Our brains are wired to seek out the next set of fears, no matter where we are on our journey. Whether it’s a promotion, building a successful business, or quitting a job, our minds are relentless in conjuring up new worries and threats. It’s a never-ending cycle.

Here’s the truth: Nothing has gone wrong. The post-quitting panic, the onslaught of doubts and regrets–it’s all normal. Our brains are wired for survival, constantly scanning for danger and trying to keep us safe. And society has instilled in us the belief that work equals safety, that financial stability is the only path to security.

But let me remind you that you are more than your job.

You are capable of creating a plan, of managing your mind, and steering yourself towards a fulfilling life. Remember, your thoughts are not truths. They are simply mental chatter that you can choose to redirect.

Imagine your brain as a mischievous toddler, throwing tantrums and fixating on worst-case scenarios. As the calm, rational adult, you have the power to guide and reassure that little one. Acknowledge its fears, but gently bring it back to the truth and your well-thought-out plan.

Now, if you’ve recently quit and find yourself in the midst of this tumultuous journey, please know that you’re not alone. I’m here for you, and I want to help you navigate this challenging phase.

Here are 3 essential steps to embrace:

1️⃣ DECIDE: Take control from your rational mind and make a plan. Whether it’s finding a new job or taking a sabbatical, set your intentions and create a roadmap.

2️⃣ REDIRECT: Expect your brain to go haywire with fears and doubts. But remember, you don’t have to believe every thought that pops up. Redirect your focus to thoughts that anchor you, that remind you of your capabilities and resources.

3️⃣ HAVE YOUR BACK: Trust in yourself and your ability to figure things out. Remind yourself of all the times you’ve overcome challenges and made it through tough days. You are resilient.

Break free from your old patterns.

So, let’s break free from the chains of constant productivity. Let’s allow ourselves the time to rest, explore, and breathe. Let’s stop berating ourselves and start celebrating our journey, no matter how uncertain it may seem right now.
